Frequently Asked Questions
How do I choose the right charger?
Most homeowners choose a Level 2 (240-volt) charger for faster overnight charging. Popular brands include Tesla, ChargePoint, Emporia, and Wallbox. The right choice depends on your vehicle, your daily driving, and your electrical setup. During your free estimate, we review the options and recommend chargers that fit your needs.
What affects the cost of installation?
Installation cost depends on several factors: the distance between your electrical panel and the charger location, whether your panel has enough capacity, the wiring and conduit path, the charger model you choose, and local permit fees. Every project starts with a free estimate with clear, transparent pricing, so you know exactly what to expect.
Will my electrical panel handle a Level 2 charger?
It depends on your panel’s available capacity. As part of your estimate, we evaluate your electrical system to see if it can support a Level 2 charger. If an upgrade is needed, EV Charging Pros coordinates the panel upgrade with licensed electrical partners.
Do I need a permit?
Permit requirements vary by municipality in the Chicago area, and many require an electrical permit for EV charger installations. During your estimate, we will review what applies to your project, and the installation is coordinated with licensed electrical partners.
How long does installation take?
Most residential Level 2 installations are completed in a single visit once scheduled. Timelines can vary if a panel upgrade is needed or if permits add lead time. We will give you a clear schedule during your estimate.
Can you help with rebates?
ComEd currently offers rebates for residential Level 2 charger purchases and installation in northern Illinois for qualifying customers, and incentive programs change over time. Not every customer qualifies, so check current eligibility with ComEd. We can point you to current programs and help document your project.
Save with EV Charging Incentives
You may be able to lower the cost of your EV charger installation with available incentives. ComEd currently offers rebates for residential Level 2 charger purchases and installation in northern Illinois: up to $2,500 for qualifying income-eligible and equity-eligible customers, and up to $1,000 for other residential customers, covering equipment, contractor labor, wiring, and panel work. ComEd’s business make-ready rebate program is currently closed to new applications, with its 2026 budget fully allocated. The federal EV charger tax credit (Section 30C) expired for property placed in service after June 30, 2026.
Incentive programs change over time, and not every customer qualifies. Please check current eligibility requirements with ComEd before making decisions.
